??New Orleans, the cradle of the Jazz music

100 years ago, right about the beginning of the 20th century in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, the Jazz was born. At this time, the city was full of different ethnic groups. The night life was flourishing. The artists were learning from each other and improving their music.  The African influence added the rhythm and the improvisations and the European helped with the instruments such as saxophones, piano, and trumpets.

One of the musicians, who contributed the most to this music genre was Louis Armstrong

He was born there in New Orleans on the 4th of August 1901. He had a rough start at life, he grew up in a poor family and without a father. In early age, he did a crime and got to the Colored Waif’s Home for Boys. There the music got him. He got inspired and decided to dedicate himself to it. He spent his youth working odd jobs, playing cornet and understanding better the blues and jazz music.

In 1918 his luck changed and he joined one of the most popular New Orleans’s band – Kid Ory’s band. His fame grew and in 1922 he was called to play in Chicago. One year late he managed to record his first solo “Chimes Blues”. From there, his path was up only. He became internationally known as an ambassador of the jazz music.

Jazz has evolved and transformed over the years.

It is not like classical music, it is alive, it moves, it adapts, it gets its shape from the artist playing. Because of this, you can never say the Jazz is an old music. Just go around the French Quarter of New Orleans. The clubs are not empty at all. And almost all of them are Jazz.

Sure it doesn’t sound the same as in the 20th century but exactly this is the point. Some of the best restaurants in the USA are in New Orleans, check our top 10 Best NOLA & Breaux Bridge-ian Bits. Jazz sure won’t die, as long as there are music lovers seeking for more.
